Are you a certified Matwork Instructor and want to begin teaching Advanced Matwork exercises and learn how to integrate small props (Magic Circle, Hand Weights) in a safe way with confidence?
You will enhance your skills on how to progress your clients step-by-step to the Advanced level according to the Classical Pilates method. Our work and philosophy maintain the heritage from the original method developed by Joseph H. Pilates. We are the only Pilates studio in Sweden with a 2nd generation Classical Pilates teacher. You will continue learning how to safely progress and teach your clients the Advanced Matwork exercises in Classical Pilates with confidence. A small group of max 6 apprentices get the opportunity to continue studying with Stephanie Fjalestad, a 2nd generation teacher.
We teach you practical skills on how to teach all advanced exercises. We teach you how to safely build up and progress to them using Joe’s original Pilates principles and method. In addition you will learn how to use the Magic Circle (integrated in Progressive Matwork exercises, between hands, ankles, inner thighs and as neck strengthener), how to use hand weights (Romana’s standing arm weight series and all 6 rowing exercises on the Mat) and alternative endings using a wall.
We will provide clear directions and continue your development as an instructor on how to teach with confidence. Guided by your teacher and mentor, you start by taking classes at the advanced level, and classes with the Magic Circle and Hand Weights before the workshop.
During the workshop you get to practice teaching under the guidance of your teacher and how to best progress clients. After the workshop you will be taking and teaching online classes with your fellow apprentices. You will be taking turns teaching parts of a class while your teacher observes and provides feedback.
You should plan approximately 6 hours per week from the start of the education until you are ready for your individual test and feedback. This international education is taught in English.

Pilates Teachers
During the eduction you will learn from Swedens most Senior Pilates Teachers in Classical Pilates.
Stephanie is a 2nd generation Classical Pilates Instructor since 2003 and will be your personal teacher and mentor during the Education. She holds a Comprehensive Classical Pilates Certification from Master Instructor Romana Kryzanowska, the founder Joseph Pilates’ protégé, and has taught thousands of people in US, Australia and Europe to “Stretch with Strength and Control“.
Yes, if you have a Certificate of Excellence in Matwork.
Becoming an Advanced Pilates instructor requires time, motivation and commitment.
If you have the drive, we will help you to become a safe, more knowledgeable instructor. The Pilates Via education includes our unique mentorship program from a 2nd generation teacher with valuable experience and knowledge to guide you through your education.

Do I need to do a foundation course first?
Yes you have to.
To do the Advanced Matwork Instructor education, you must have completed the Matwork Instructor education and received your Certificate of Excellence in Matwork, i.e. completed the training and passed the exam with at least 80% points.
I don't live in Stockholm - Can I join this unique Classical Pilates education?
Yes you can.
However, you need to participate in the mandatory workshops at our Pilates Studio in Stockholm, Sweden. Our learning platform for self-study, classes, observations, apprentice meetings is online.
For the Matwork educations you only require an exercise mat at home. For Advanced Matwork, Special Populations Matwork educations you also need a Magic Circle and set of hand weights (0.5 kg).
For any of the Apparatus educations you need to have access to Classical (preferably) Pilates Apparatus to be able to practice enough to pass the education and to get certified.
I can't participate in the mandatory weekend - Is there a way to learn by myself?
No, you unfortunately not with us. We feel that teaching clients the Advanced Matwork exercises requires more than just knowing the exercises. You need to know how to determine if a client is ready for the Advanced exercises so they do not injure themselves. We provide you with the necessary skills to assess and progress clients safely from Progressive to Advanced exercises.
You can miss one day of the workshop weekend, however you’ll need to schedule a few Private PT Sessions with your Teacher to asess and review your individual progress.

After completing the Advanced Matwork Instructor Education we offer two more educations:
- Special Populations Matwork Instructor Education (prenatal, postnatal and elderly)
- Reformer Apparatus Instructor Education (teaching essential to progressive reformer apparatus)

What does it take to get a Diploma in Advanced Matwork?
To obtain a Diploma of Participation in Advanced Matwork, you are required to actively participate in the entire education. You complete the theoretical and practical elements according to the plan.
For this continued education, the final part is a mandatory assessment & feedback by the teacher for the students who actively participated. The assessment evaluates your level of knowledge and skills both theoretically and practically, and you are given recommendations on what the teacher thinks you can practice further.
After you have participated in the final part, you will receive a Diploma of Participation.
What does active participation mean?
To receive a Diploma of Participation, you are required to actively participate in this education. This means that:
- You attend all days of the mandatory workshop. If you are unable to attend a single day of the workshop you need to schedule a few Private PT Sessions with your Teacher to review and assess your individual learning progress to help you prepare for the remaining of the education.
- You take the recommended 15 classes (progressive & advanced) between 4 weeks prior to education starts and before the last week of the individual final Assessment, a total of ~15 weeks.
- You take the final assessment.
I work a full-time job - Can I make it work?
You know yourself best. Most people who went through this education had full-time jobs and made it work. We recommend you practice (train matwork classes, observe matwork classes, self-practice and practice training others) approximately 6 hours per week on average throughout the education.
