Questions & Answers

Why should I do home sessions over classes as a beginner?

Taking home sessions at the beginning of your Pilates journey will help you learn the basics properly. When you know how to modify exercises to your own ability, group classes will be more effective and you will reach your goals faster.

I've never done Pilates before, when will I see results?

Joe Pilates always said, “In 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 you will see the difference, and in 30 you will have a whole new body”

What's the difference between Pilates and Yoga?

Both Yoga and Pilates are mind-body exercise methods but there are some key differences:

  1. In Yoga the main focus is breathing. In Pilates the focus is precision of movement, breathing is secondary.
  2. Yoga tends to be more static, holding poses. Pilates tends to have more flow of movement.
  3. Yoga is rooted in spiritual, meditative practice. In Pilates there is no spiritual aspect.

New York City, Skype, Pilates at Home

As an avid cyclist, I added Pilates into my exercise routine as a form of cross-training. I started working with Stephanie at a gym in my building, using a reformer, mat work and MELT with a foam roller during our sessions. I have been thrilled with the results! I am stronger in my core and more flexible and have better awareness regarding my posture. Most importantly, my Pilates with Stephanie has enabled me to keep doing what I love – ride my bike!

I have continued working with Steph since she moved to Stockholm via Skype. The experience is terrific – I truly feel like she is in the room with me, giving corrections and encouragement. Working on Skype is also very convenient. I highly recommend Skype training with Steph!

New York City, Private Sessions

Stephanie is very knowledgeable and has a positive approach. She always explained what each exercise was designed to accomplish and challenged us while moving us forward to reach our goals. She was able to present different classes at each session to work various parts of our bodies. She kept each class new and exciting and in turn we were always interested and engaged. Stephanie was always conscious of each person’s needs and limitations, suggesting ways to modify an exercise so that each individual in the class could get the maximum benefit. (From the newest member in the group): Stephanie helped me catch up quickly and not hold the group up. She is a true professional.

Working one on one with a skilled trainer is extremely beneficial as the teacher is able to fine tune your workout to your skill level, build on your strengths, and work on your challenges. Stephanie Fjalestad has been my primary instructor for the last twelve years and it is a pleasure working with her. What I truly admire is her ability to combine so many aspects into the classes including MELT, mat work, and working with all of the equipment. Her professionalism, experience and knowledge are brought together in an engaging personal teaching style. The newest aspect to our continuing relationship is how we have been able to continue but at the same time re-structure our sessions using Skype!
